Reclamation

RECLAMATION

Our Process

The goal of the reclamation plan is to reclaim the area so that:

  • The land will revert to agricultural use with the ability to produce crops similar to that which existed prior to gravel mining operations
  • The gravel extraction area will be reclaimed so that there is approximately an equivalent amount of peat lands and topsoil lands as existed prior to excavation
  • The reclamation will provide a wetland that will be used for wildlife/stock water
  • The final reclaimed surface will slope gently towards the wetland

Our reclamation plan aims to reduce ongoing impacts as they occur:

  • We will reclaim the site on an ongoing basis – the overburden from future extraction areas is used to reclaim mined areas
  • We will complete all reclamation work to a standard that permits future agricultural uses
  • We will minimize dust and erosion by loaming and seeding any new topsoil and subsoil stockpiles immediately

Aesthetics Plan

Contoured berms were constructed at strategic locations to screen our operation. Seeded with grass and planted with native shrubs and trees, the berm provides aesthetic appeal and noise reduction benefits to neighbours. BURNCO consulted with neighbours to determine sight-lines from their homes.
